I usually skip the meetings unless I think that it could be done better and that the group would facilitate that. I used to say that autoX is the opposite of a car meet, but after going to some that weren't my local, I'm not so sure. It seems like the more SCCA involvement, the worse the autoX. I don't think that my local is very SCCA affiliated and they're lax about things that don't matter. For example, I had my battery bungeed down for a while. I know that that is dangerous because it can fall out and start a fire, but my local had the view of it being my car that I'm driving, so that was on me. That being said, I explained to them that I had bigger issues than by tiedown and just wanted to get Charlie on track and that I was taking care of one issue at a time (I only had two of the four legs attached for the driver's seat when I bought him) and they were fine with it as long as they saw that I was working towards getting everything in line. At one of the others, they freaked out because my passenger was holding a camera during my run.

I drove by the parking lot we use here the other day - there are still 10 foot+ snow mounds. First weekend in may is supposed to be test and tune; guess we'll see how it shakes out.
